Claude Motion vs. Claude Code + skills

Two ways to make motion graphics with Claude. Which one fits you — and why “skill” and “MCP” searches usually mean the second.

Last checked: October 10, 2026

Key takeaways

  1. 1Motion is Anthropic’s built-in feature — no code needed.
  2. 2Claude Code with community skills is a developer workflow you run yourself.
  3. 3No official link between the two has been announced.
  4. 4Pick Motion for quick business explainers; pick Claude Code for full control.

Two different things

Both routes end with an animated video made with Claude’s help, but they are built for different people and involve very different amounts of setup.

Anthropic · beta

Claude Motion

A feature inside Claude. Describe the animation, edit it in chat or in the editor, and export an MP4. No code, no installs.
Community

Claude Code + skills

Claude writes animation code inside your own project; a skill or framework then renders it on your machine.

Why people search for “skills”

The word “motion” is everywhere in developer tooling, and Claude Code users have been making motion graphics since well before this launch. So when someone types “skill” or “MCP” next to the product name, they are usually looking for a way to do the same kind of work from a terminal — not for the feature inside Claude.

1

“skill”

Usually means a Claude Code skill that teaches Claude a rendering workflow.
2

“MCP”

Usually means a server that connects Claude to an outside video or design tool.
3

“in Claude Code”

Usually means: can I get the same result without leaving my editor?

Side by side

01

Who it’s for

Motion: marketers, analysts, ops — anyone on a Team or Enterprise plan. Claude Code: developers comfortable with a terminal and a project folder.
02

How you edit

Motion: ask in chat or tweak the code in the built-in editor. Claude Code: edit project files and re-render locally.
03

Output

Motion: MP4 export, plus hand-off to partner tools. Claude Code: whatever your renderer supports, often MP4 or image sequences.
04

Setup

Motion: none on Team; an Owner enables it on Enterprise. Claude Code: install a skill or framework and its dependencies.
05

Cost

Motion: Team or Enterprise seats. Claude Code: your Claude plan plus any license your renderer requires.
06

Control

Motion: guided and quick. Claude Code: anything you can code, including batch jobs and automation.

What the skills look like

A few common patterns you will find in community repositories and skill directories:

A

HTML + ffmpeg

Claude writes an animated HTML page; a headless browser records it and ffmpeg encodes the video.
B

Remotion

React-based programmatic video. Claude writes the components and you render with Remotion’s tools.
C

Higgsfield MCP

Connects Claude to Higgsfield for generated motion, ending in an editable After Effects project.

A typical week with each

M

With Motion

Monday: brief a recap from the weekly report. Ten minutes of edits in chat. Export, drop into the all-hands deck. Done before lunch.
C

With Claude Code

Set up a template once. Each week, a script feeds new numbers in and renders twenty localised versions overnight.

Which should you pick?

✓

Choose Motion if

You want a short explainer from a report or chart today, without touching code — and your company is on Team or Enterprise.
→

Choose Claude Code if

You need full control, custom rendering or batch automation — and you are comfortable running tools locally.

Not sure? Start with Motion if you already have access: it costs nothing extra to try a short brief, and you will quickly see whether its scope covers your needs. Move to a code workflow only for the videos that hit its limits.

FAQ

Questions on this page

Can I use Claude Motion inside Claude Code?

Not according to anything announced so far. Motion lives in Claude on Team and Enterprise plans. In Claude Code, people use community skills or frameworks such as Remotion instead.

Is there an official skill or MCP server for it?

Not from Anthropic as of our last check. Projects using the name on GitHub and in skill directories are community-made.

Which one is cheaper?

Motion needs a Team or Enterprise seat. Claude Code workflows run on your own plan and machine, but rendering tools may have their own license terms — check each one.

Can I switch between them later?

Yes. They are independent. Many teams will use Motion for quick explainers and a code workflow for the few videos that need custom rendering.
