Before you start
You need a seat on a Team or Enterprise plan, and on Enterprise an Owner must have switched Claude Motion on. It also helps to gather your material first: the report, the spreadsheet, the screenshots or the logo you want to animate.
1
A Team or Enterprise seat
Free, Pro and Max plans do not include Claude Motion during the beta.
2
Your content
Real numbers and real screenshots make better animations than placeholder text.
3
A clear goal
Know what the viewer should remember after the last frame.
1 · Open it
There are three ways in, and they all lead to the same editor. Official·Claude Help Center ↗
A
Just ask
Request an animation in any chat, in your own words.
B
Output → Motion
Pick Motion from the output options in the message box.
C
Motion template
Open the Artifacts tab, choose a Motion template and describe what you want.
2 · Brief it like a director
A good brief answers four questions. Anthropic’s own guidance highlights the first three; the fourth is about using your real material.
1
Audience
Board? Customers? The whole company?
2
Where it plays
A slide, the website, a social feed?
3
Length
10, 30 or 45 seconds?
4
Your content
Attach the report, data or images.
Here is a template you can reuse for most explainers:
Make a [length] animation for [audience], shown [where].
Use the attached [file]. Lead with [main point], end on [takeaway].
Style: [pace], [brand colours or notes].
—
Weak brief
“Make a video about our results.” — no audience, no length, no data. Claude has to guess everything.
✓
Strong brief
“Make a 30-second animation for our all-hands, using the attached Q3 report. Lead with revenue growth, end on the Q4 goal. Calm pace, purple accents.”
3 · Edit until it’s right
Because Claude Motion builds the animation as code, you can change one thing at a time. One idea per scene keeps those edits contained.
Aa
In chat
“Slow down scene 2.” · “Change 18% to 21%.” · “Use our purple for the bars.” · “Hold the final number for two seconds.”
{}
In the editor
Adjust the code directly for precise changes. The rest of the piece stays as it is.
1
Fix facts first
Check every number and name before tweaking style. Content edits are the most important.
2
Then pacing
Most first drafts move a little fast. Ask for longer holds on key figures.
3
Style last
Colours and fonts are quick to change once the story is right.
4 · Export & hand off
Export → MP4
Downloads the video, ready for a deck, a page or a post.
Share
Animations are private by default — share them with colleagues for review when ready.
Continue elsewhere
Open the animation in Adobe, Descript, HeyGen, Higgsfield, invideo, Luma AI or Runway. Canva and Captions are coming soon.
Common problems
!
The numbers are wrong
Attach the source file rather than typing figures into the prompt, then ask Claude to check each value against it.
!
It feels rushed
Ask for fewer scenes, or a longer hold on each key point. Shorter text per scene also helps.
!
It doesn’t look on-brand
Name your colours and say what to avoid. A reference screenshot of your brand page can help.
!
An edit changed too much
Be specific about the scene and element you want changed, and ask Claude to leave the rest untouched.
Prompts to start from
