In one sentence: Claude Motion is a feature inside Claude that turns a written brief and your own material into a short, editable animation. It is aimed at the kind of video most companies need every week — a recap, a chart reveal, a walkthrough — rather than cinematic footage.

How it works

You describe what you need, attach your content, and Claude builds the animation as code. The finished piece plays like a short video in an editor, where you can keep refining it.

  1. You brief it

A sentence or two about the audience, where the video will play and roughly how long it should be — plus the report, data or images you want animated.
  2. Claude writes code

Text, charts, shapes and images are laid out and animated: titles fade in, bars grow, numbers count up, screenshots slide into place.
  3. You refine it

Ask for changes in plain language, or edit the code directly in the editor. A targeted change leaves the rest of the animation alone.
  4. You export

Download an MP4, share it with colleagues, or continue in another tool such as Runway, Adobe or Luma AI.

Why “built as code” matters

Most AI video tools generate frames with a video model. Claude Motion takes a different route: it writes code that draws and animates your content. That design choice explains both its strengths and its limits.

01

Edits are surgical

Because each element is defined in code, you can change a headline, a single figure or the timing of one scene without regenerating the whole piece. Iterating feels more like editing a slide than re-rolling a prompt.
02

Your numbers stay yours

Nothing is imagined by a generative model. The values in your chart are the values you supplied, which matters for board decks, financial recaps and anything a colleague will check.
03

Consistent style

The same brief produces the same look, so a monthly update can keep one visual style over time. Swap the numbers, keep the design.
04

Clear boundaries

The flip side: there is no live-action footage and no AI-generated people. If a project needs those, Claude Motion is one step in the workflow, not the whole of it.

Good at · not built for

The simplest mental model is an animated slide, not an AI film. If the content would work as a polished slide with motion, Claude Motion is a good fit.

✓

Good at

All-hands explainers from a report · chart reveals for decks · onboarding walkthroughs from screenshots · pricing comparisons · monthly product recaps

Not built for

Realistic footage · AI-generated people · character animation and lip-sync · 3D scenes · long-form video editing

Who should use it

Claude Motion is most useful for people whose job involves explaining numbers, products or plans to others — and who do not have a motion designer on call.

Examples to try first

Anthropic’s own examples cluster around everyday business communication. These briefs are a good starting point because they are short, data-driven and easy to check.

30 seconds

Quarterly recap

Three headline numbers count up, then the animation lands on next quarter’s goal. Works well for an all-hands meeting.
Under 10 seconds

Chart reveal

Bars grow one by one and the final value is highlighted, sized to sit inside a single slide.
45 seconds

Setup walkthrough

Four or five screenshots, one step per scene, with short captions for new customers.
20 seconds

Plan comparison

Each plan as a column, features revealed row by row, ending on the recommended option.

How it compares

Claude Motion is easy to confuse with other tools that share the word “motion”. It is also not the only way to make animation with Claude: developers can use Claude Code with community skills or frameworks such as Remotion.

A

vs. video generators

Runway or Luma generate footage; Claude Motion animates your content. They work well together.
B

vs. Claude Code + skills

A developer workflow you run yourself, with full control and more setup. See our comparison page.
C

vs. motion.so

A separate company’s product with a similar name. It is not made by Anthropic.
